About this trip

Gokyo, Chola pass, Kala Patthar Everest Base Camp Trek is one the most famous trek in entire Everest region. The trek is gaining popularity day by day as it provides an awesome experience in the high Himalaya region covering the major attraction points of the Khumbu region like Lukla – the airstrip, Namche – the major trading village in Everest region, Kala Patthar, Everest Base Camp, Chola pass, Gokyo Lake, Thyangboche and so on.

The world’s highest peak Mt. Everest is also located in this region. The trail gives outstanding and breathtaking views of world’s top four highest peaks i.e. Cho Oyu (8201m), Makalu (8463m), Lhotse (8516 m) and Everest (8848m). In addition, rhododendron forests, rocky hills, rivers, lakes, glaciers are the other attractions of the trek. Moreover, trekkers can study and explore Sherpa villages and it’s socio-cultural aspects i.e., their traditions, culture and life style.

Arrive in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our Travel Devisers’ representative and driver will meet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your designed hotel. The representative will help you check into your hotel.

At the hotel, you will be briefed about your daily activities.

Sightseeing around Kathmandu

Kathmandu Valley is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors.

The valley offers you a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influences.

In the morning, after breakfast, you will be guided to visit 3 renowned Buddhist and Hindu temples: Pashupatinath, Bouddha Stupa, and Swayambhunath.

After lunch, you will be visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square.

Flight to Lukla and trek to Phakding

In the early morning, after breakfast, you will board a flight to Lukla and a landing on a steep mountain runway brings you to the start of your trek at the village of Lukla (2850m).

Even during the entire flight, you can enjoy panoramic sights of great Himalayas of Nepal including Mt. Everest (8,848m), Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8153m), Mt. Lhotse (8,501m), Mt. Lhotse Shar (8,393m), Kanchenjunga, Gaurishankar, Ganesh, Langtang etc.

From Lukla, you will head up the Dudh Koshi Valley on a well-marked trail and will be accommodated in a local lodge.

Trek to Namche

Leaving Phakding, you will be crossing the river twice through high suspension bridges and arrive at Monjo – the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park which was set-up in order to protect and preserve the fragile mountain environment.

From here, you will follow the path to reach Namche, which is the major trading village in entire Khumbu region. If the weather is clear, you will get the first glimpse of Mt Everest from this point.

Rest day in Namche

Today you will spend your entire day in Namche by taking complete rest in order to acclimatize to gain altitude, plan for forthcoming trips and get habituated to your trekking destinations.

To acclimatize, you will also visit Khunde Hospital which was set up by Sir Edmund Hillary and Everest View Hotel for sunset view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam.

Namche Bazaar to Phortse Thanga

From Namche, you will move ahead towards Thame, which is an old Sherpa village residing along the Bhote Koshi river valley.

On the way you be mesmerized with the view of Tibetan nomads with hundreds of Yak caravan moving to trade goods at Namche. Continuing the journey, after couple of hours of walk, you will reach Khumjung.

Khumjung is another great Sherpa village where trekkers observe and explore the traditions and cultures of local communities.

Besides this, you can also get magnificent views of Himalayas like Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam etc.

Your final destination for the day is Phortse - the main Sherpa village around this trail where you can again observe and enjoy the socio-cultural aspect of the community.

Phortse Thanga to Dole

To help with acclimatization, you will spend a very short time trekking today.

The trail first climbs steeply out of the valley crossing beautiful rhododendron forests. You will then pass a herders’ hut and climb to Dole.

Dole to Machhermo

The trail climbs steeply to a single lodge at Lhabarma. You will then pass a small settlement of Luza and continue to climb along the side of the valley high above the river to Machhermo.

Machhermo to Gokyo

From Machhermo, today, you will follow the path to Gokyo. The trail climbs a ridge for an excellent view both down the valley to Kantega and upwards to Cho Oyu.

Beyond the ridge, the valley widens as the trail reaches the small village of PangkaNilibuk.

From there, you will reach the ridge heading towards a small lake Longponga and then another lake Tauja.

Finally you will make a climb up aboulder-strewn path to Gokyo. Gokyo is a seasonal village and grazing area built beside the third and biggest lake, Dudh Pokhari.

The village has become something of a Himalayan resort without the crowd – at least in terms of the comfortable lodges with sunrooms, unbeatable views, excellent food and warm stoves.

Gokyo – Gokyo Ri- Gokyo

Gokyo offers breathtaking views of Cho Oyu, Gyanchung Kang, Everest, Lothse, Makalu, Cholatse and Tawachee before.

For the best view, we will climb Gokyo Ri (5483m) before returning to Gokyo village.

Gokyo – Thangna

Today, you will be crossing the Gokyo glacier making your way downwards to the village of Thangna, situated at the very shore of the Ngozumpa Glacier.

Thangna - Dzongla via Chola pass

The pass from Thangna to Dzongla is not difficult. However, it is steep and involves a glacier crossing and takes about five and half hours to complete.

There’s a slight ascent along the valley towards Chola pass, which is covered with blue ice most of the time.

From here you can enjoy the panoramic views of various mountains before the trail descends all the way to Dzongla.

Dzongla to Lobuche

From this route both Pheriche and Dhugla are visible amidst the backdrop of magnificent mountain views. It takes about four and half hours to complete the trip.

Lobuche - Gorak Shep - Everest base camp - Gorak Shep

Your last destination for today is Gorak Shep. To reach Gorak Shep you will have to pass Kala Patthar and Khumbu glaciers surrounded by astoundingly beautiful snow-clad mountains.

Three hours of further walking and you will be at Gorak Shep.

From the EBC you can see not just the great views of Mount Everest, but also notorious Everest Ice Fall that flow from the Western Cwm, which is technically regarded as the hardest and most dangerous section of the mountain.

After spending some time in EBC, you will head back to Gorakshep for the accommodation.

Gorak Shep -KalaPathar-Pheriche

In the early morning, you will hike up Kala Patthar (5545m) from where you can enjoy the view of sunrise in the Himalayas including the mighty Everest, and many other mountain peaks like Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbetse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, and Mt. Thamserku.

After observing Kala Patthar, you will continue the journey to Pherice where your accommodation will be managed for the day.

Pheriche - Phortse

Today you will trek from Pheriche to Phortse.

Phortse is the main Sherpa village around this trail where you can observe and enjoy the socio-cultural aspect of the community.

You will visit an old Monastery and take a walk alongside a steep path with great views of Ama Dablam and the Tengboche monastery.

Phortse is also an excellent place to see Musk Deer and Danphe (national bird of Nepal know for its nine colors).

Phortse –Khumjung - Namche

To make your trek more worthwhile, you will continue the journey and walk through beautiful forests of Rhododendrons, Birch and Willows.

After crossing the Dudh Koshi River, you will climb up hill to Mong La (4020m).

From Mong La, you will walk to Khumjung village and descend towards Namche Bazaar for an overnight stay.

Namche Bazaar to Lukla

This will be the final day of the trek and the ultimate destination is Lukla. The path goes along side the Dudh Koshi to reach Lukla.

Upon reaching Lukla in the evening, you will have time to enjoy local drinks with a company of Sherpa guides and porters.

Fly to Kathmandu

After breakfast, you will check in to the airport to fly back to Kathmandu.

Upon reaching the Kathmandu airport, your guide will transfer you to the designated hotel.

In the evening, you have free time for refreshments and shopping.

Depart Kathmandu

After checking out of the hotel, our representative will take you to the international airport for your flight home.

You also have the option to to extend your stay in Nepal for shorter trips, such as visits to national parks, rafting, mountain biking, hiking, and more. We are always ready to help you plan for these if you would require them.
