About this trip
Shivapuri is situated at an altitude of 2563 meter north of Kathmandu and is second highest hill around the valley, after the famous Phulchowki hill. Bagdwar, the holy river Baghmati is situated at this hill and supplies the largest water source to Kathmandu valley to its increasing population. We drive for about 45 minutes to Budhanilkantha Temple, one of the few temples with biggest statue of Lord Vishnu sleeping in the ocean bed. Budhanilkantha is located which 8 kms north of Kathmandu. From Budhanilkantha we will walk through Shivapuri conservation area. This area is a Government protected forest where over 500 species of vegetation are found, along with different species of birds and monkeys. We start our hike from the southern boundary of this area at where the army check post is located.
Nagi Gumpa situated at an altitude of 2330 meter north of Kathmand, above Budhanilkantha Temple. Nagi Gumpa is a Monastery only for the Nuns there are about 200 Nuns who practice Buddhism here and foreigners often come there for meditation.
It is half an hour hike uphill through steep narrow and dusty trail and two hours gradual uphill trail to Shivapuri.
After lunch and rest for a while, we take a short cut downhill trail to Budhanilkantha, and to end this trip we drive back to Kathmandu which takes about half an hour.
