The Upper Mustang Trek is also known as Mustang Trek which is one of the most popular and interesting destinations in Nepal.

Mustang, an ancient Himalayan Kingdom, lies in the northern central part of Nepal bordering Tibet. There is a village called Kagbeni is also known as Upper Mustang and has significant Tibetan cultural influences. The major highlighted attractions of Mustang trekking are ancient Tibetan villages, rare Buddhist arts, the exotic culture, traditions, languages, architectures, colorful and attractive rock formations, and the Himalayan desert.

The outstanding and interesting views of great Himalayas such as Annapurna, Gangapurna, Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, and others peaks along with forests of pine, rhododendron, oaks and its wildlife, rivers, hills and picturesque landscapes add value to this trek.

Arrive in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our Travel Devisers’ representative and driver will meet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your designed hotel. The representative will help you check into your hotel.

Sightseeing around Kathmandu

Kathmandu Valley is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors.

The valley offers you a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influences.

In the morning, after breakfast, you will be guided to visit 3 renowned Buddhist and Hindu temples: Pashupatinath, Bouddha Stupa, and Swayambhunath.

After lunch, you will be visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square.

Drive to Pokhara and half day sightseeing in Pokhara

After an early breakfast, you will be driven to Pokhara city, 200 km west from Kathmandu.

The trip takes about 5 to 6 hours on a tourist vehicle.

We will be passing by beautiful forests, deep gorges and Nepali villages on our way to Pokhara.

On arrival in Pokhara we will take you around for a half-day guided tour around the city.

Following this you will visit Fewa Lake where you can enjoy boating. If the weather is clear, you can see the reflection of Mt. Machhapuchhre in the lake.

The lake also houses the Barahi Temple located in the middle of the lake.

Other interesting destinations would be David's Fall, the Tibetan Refugee Settlement, the Gupteshwor Cave, the International Mountain Museum, and the Bindabasini Temple.

After the tour you will be accommodated at a hotel in Pokhara.

Fly to Jomsom & trek to Kagbeni

From Pokhara you will board on an early morning flight to Jomsom.

While on board you will have a splendid view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains.

After reaching Jomsom and resting for a while, you will move towards Kagbeni (2800 m).

Kagbeni is a traditional Tibetan village, which used to be the ancient Nepal-Tibet trade route.

Trek to Chele

From Kagbeni, you will follow the path leading to the riverbank, upstream Kaligandaki.

During this walk you will get picturesque views of mountains, forests and landscapes. Continuing the journey (both uphill and downhill) you will reach Tangbe, from where you will move towards Chele village.

Trek to Geling

Today your trek will begin by climbing the step trails on arid desert.

On the way you will view several canyons, interesting chortens passes, and the Samar village.

Finally you will reach Geling, which will be your final destination for the day.

Trek to Charang

Today’s trek will be relatively easier.

The trail gently goes up by crossing the interesting passes over a steel bridge at Tangmar River, gray and red cliffs along Mani walls.

From there you will have to walk downhill to reach the Charang village by crossing over a pass at 3600 m.

Charang houses five huge stories of Dzong and Red Gompa and collection of Statues and Thangkas as well.

Trek to Lo - Manthang

You will spend first half of the morning exploring interesting villages of Charang and its large monastery before setting out for Lo Manthang.

To reach Lo-Manthang, you will first have to climb above the valley to a large isolated chorten that marks the boundary between Charang and Lo-Manthang.

The highland route offers dramatic views of Lo Manthang and the Charang Valley amidst the snow-clad peaks in the background.

Rest and relax at Lo - Manthang

Today you will spend your entire day taking a complete rest for acclimatizing to altitude, planning for your upcoming trips and getting habituated to the trekking destinations. You are welcome to hike around Lo-Manthang on your own for pictures and exploring the place.

Explore Lo - Manthang

We will begin our day by exploring the surrounding areas of Lo Manthang village.

We will provide you with two options: first, you will visit Namgyal Gompa, which is situated on a hilltop; it serves as an important monastery for the local community and also as a local court.

After visiting Namgyal Gompa, you will continue the tour to Tingkhar, the last head village to the northwest of Lo Mangthang.

Or you can also choose to visit the Tall ChampaLakhang – “God House", the red Thugchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and the Entrance Hall, which are the other major attractions of this small town.

Once here, you can experience the architectural beauty of this place and also visit the magnificent four storey King's palace that overlooks this beautiful destination.

Trek to Ghami

Today you will descend from Lo Manthang and head towards the village of Ghami as the final destination for the day.

It is a lovely village surrounded with lots of barley farmlands and white washed houses. You will spend the night here at a local lodge.

Trek to Samar

Leaving Ghami, you will follow a narrow meandering path crossing over a small stream till you reach Geling.

En route you can enjoy good view of Nilgiri Mountain, deserted landscapes, Tibetan style villages, and their lifestyle along with terraced farming and natural vegetation.

Trek to Kagbeni

From Samar to Kagbeni, you will walk about seven hours following a descending path, then cross a suspension bridge over Kaligandaki River to reach Chhuksang.

Following this you will walk along the bank of the Kaligandaki River amidst natural vegetation and apple orchards to your final destination, Kagbeni.

Trek to Jomsom

Today you will trek up to Jomsom, which generally takes about three hours.

The trail first passes through the banks of the Kaligandaki River and then through Eklebhatti, which is a windy at early afternoons.

From there, you will head towards Jomsom where you can have access to Internet and banking facilities.

Fly to Pokhara and fly/drive to Kathmandu

After breakfast you can check-in at the airport to fly back to Pokhara (30 minutes).

Upon arrival at Pokhara airport, you will either take another flight to Kathmandu or you will be driven to Kathmandu via tourist vehicle.

You can enjoy your free time at Kathmandu by shopping or around or relax at the hotel.

Depart from Kathmandu

After checking out of the hotel, our representative will take you to the international airport for your flight home.

You also have the option to to extend your stay in Nepal for shorter trips, such as visits to national parks, rafting, mountain biking, hiking, and more. We always ready to help you plan for these if you would require them.
