About this trip

Everest Base Camp (EBC) expedition is one of the most challenging mountain treks of the world. Located in Khumbu a region of Nepal, this trek has been a very popular destination for trekkers and tourists ever since the very first expedition started at Mt. Everest in 1953. Famous for its picturesque landscapes of Snowy Mountain peaks and warm welcoming people of the mountains Sherpa’s, Everest is complete bliss.

The main attraction of the trek is Mt. Everest (8,848m), which is the highest peak in the planet. Mt. Everest is popularly known as Qomolangma in Tibet and Sagarmatha in Nepal. In addition to Mt. Everest, Everest region (Khumbu) is also home to the four of world’s highest peaks Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8153m), Mt. Lhotse (8,501m) and Mt. Lhotse Shar (8,393m).

EBC trek passes through scenic forests of rhododendron, glaciers, rivers, waterfalls, hills, lakes, mountains, flora and fauna, through the Sherpa villages, where trekkers can observe and explore cultures and traditions of the Sherpas.

Arrive in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our Travel Devisers’ representative and driver will meet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your designed hotel. The representative will help you check into your hotel.

Sightseeing around Kathmandu

Kathmandu Valley is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors.

The valley offers you a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influences.

In the morning, after breakfast, you will be guided to visit 3 renowned Buddhist and Hindu temples: Pashupatinath, Bouddha Stupa, and Swayambhunath.

After lunch, you will be visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square.

Flight to Lukla and trek to Phakding

After an early morning breakfast, you will board a flight to Lukla which lands on a steep mountain runway brings you to the start of your trek at the village of Lukla (2850m).

Even during the entire flight, you can enjoy panoramic sights of great Himalayas of Nepal including Mt. Everest (8,848m), Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8153m), Mt. Lhotse (8,501m), Mt. Lhotse Shar (8,393m), Kanchenjunga, Gaurishankar, Ganesh, Langtang etc.

From Lukla, you will head up to Dudh Koshi valley a well-marked trail, accommodation at a local lodge.

Trek to Namche

Leave Phakding, you will be cross over the river twice through high suspension bridges and arrive at Monjo – the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park, which was set-up in order to protect and preserve the fragile mountain environment.

From here, you will follow the path to Namche, which is the major trading village in entire Khumbu region. If the weather is clear, you will get the first glimpse of Mt Everest from this point.

Rest day in Namche

Today you will spend your entire day in Namche, to take complete rest and acclimatize to altitude, plan for the forthcoming trips and get habituated at your trekking destinations.

To acclimatize, you will also visit Khunde Hospital, which was set up by Sir Edmund Hillary, then visit the Everest View Hotel in time to witness the sunset on Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam.

Trek to Thyangboche

This day, you will walk along the trail that follows the path to the side of the valley, high above the Dudh Koshi River. You will get to views some of the great peaks of the Khumbu region including Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam.

As you move downhill, you will pass through several Sherpa villages and teashops, continuing the hike to reach Thyangboche followed by a zigzag path. The path offers breathtaking sights of Rhododendron bushes with beautiful birds sightings and splendid mountain scenery.

Finally, you will reach Thyangboche, which is famous for its legendary monastery, the largest in the Khumbu region.

Trek to Pheriche

Today, you will be descending downhill from Thyangboche through the forests and by crossing the Imja Khola. The trail then follows the uphill path to the village of Pangboche, which faces Mt. Ama Dablam (6,856m).

Joy of the trek will be further escalated by the view of mountains, forests, Gompas, rivers etc. Furthermore after two hours of walk, you will arrive to your final destination for the day.

Rest day in Pheriche

After the continuous walk for seven days, you will be taking a complete rest today. You will spend your entire day in Pheriche, rest in order to acclimatize to altitude, plan for forthcoming trips and get habituated to your trekking destinations.

However, if you want, you can climb up onto the ridge overlooking Mt. Lhotse and Imja Valley.

Trek to Lobuche

Leaving Pheriche, you will trek uphill to Lobuche and pass through a wide valley into Khumbu glacier and several teahouses in between. Besides, the trail also offers magnificent views of Cholatse and Tawache.

Trek to Gorak Shep

Your last destination for the day will be Gorak Shep, base for the EBC. To reach Gorak Shep you will have to pass Kala Patthar and Khumbu glaciers surrounded by astoundingly beautiful snow-clad mountains. Three hours into further walking and you will reach Gorak Shep.

Trek to Everest Base camp, back to Gorak Shep

An early start is required to reach the Everest Base Camp. It takes several hours as the trail weaves its way through ice pinnacles and crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier.

On the way back, you can choose to take a higher route to get a spectacular view of the Khumbu Ice-fall and South Col.

Trek to Pangboche

In order to reach the final destination for the day, i.e., Pangboche, you need to walk downhill. Couple of hours of walk will take you to Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA).

From there, you will continue the journey and pass Khumbu Khola, Imja Khola and the suspension bridge before arriving at Pangboche.

Trek to Namche

From Pangboche, your journey will continue towards Namche. The trail will take you across rivers and rhododendron forests amidst the views of Tawache, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kantega and Thamserku mountains.

Trek to Lukla

This will be the final day of the trek and the ultimate destination is Lukla. The path goes along side the Dudh Koshi to reach Lukla.

Upon reaching Lukla in the evening, you will have time to enjoy local drinks with a company of Sherpa guides and porters.

Flight to Kathmandu

After having breakfast, you will check in to the airport to fly back to Kathmandu.

Upon reaching the Kathmandu airport, your guide will transfer you to the designated hotel. In the evening, you have free time for refreshments and shopping.

Depart from Kathmandu

After checking out of the hotel, our representative will take you to the international airport for your flight home.

You also have the option to to extend your stay in Nepal for shorter trips, such as visits to national parks, rafting, mountain biking, hiking, and more. We are always ready to help you plan for these if you would require them.
