About this trip
Namobuddha is a holy site for the Buddhist and lies in the Kavre district at an altitude of 1800m, about 38 kms east of Kathmandu. This stupa and shrine is build on top of this scenic hill, which significantly marks as an ancient holy site where the legendary prince Mahasattva was named and sacrificed himself to starving Tigress with its several underfed cubs. This legendary episode is depicted in a stone slab located right next to a holy stupa.
Your hike start at Dhapsi, which is 35 km east from Kathmandu, the drive is estimated to be around one and half hours. On your way to this destination we pass by ancient Newari town Panauti. You will be provided with packed lunch box for the trip along with beverages. Once we reach Dhapasi we will follow the uphill trail towards northeast direction along the narrow trails. We crossover a suspension bridge and pass through many small villages to vast rice agricultural farmlands. This gives you an insight on the agricultural lifestyle of Nepali people, and their methods to harvesting the crop (during harvest season). From here we hike uphill along the steep trails or about an hour to reach Namobuddha. After lunch and relaxing around we will proceed towards Dhulikhel which is around 30 minutes drive from Namobuddha.
